Original plan for the day was a fifty mile ride to Penn Yan with some hard climbing. Plan changed a little bit after I got on the bike. Felt a little poorly as I pedaled out into the headwind. Abandoned my hard climbing plan as the spirit just wasn't with it today. Went to plan B with a climbing lite agenda. Substituted the long grade up SR 14 rather than steep Steuben Street out of Watkins. Opted for eight miles of headwind to Lakemont rather than the short steep section to Reading Center and finally opted for the mild grade up Chubb Hollow rather than the long mild grade up 14A to Penn Yan. Kept the legs going but couldn't get the heart rate up into a comfortable cruising zone. Still had some decent steady though gentle climbing out to Himrod and thought things would pick up on the way back down the lake with the strong tailwind. Of course I thought wrong and legs opted for some slow suffering rather than the hammer option. Felt exhausted and actually lost speed on the flats with a tailwind. So that is a pretty good indication that things are still pretty sketchy about my overall condition. Still got nearly fifty miles in, although the last twenty were far from pleasant.
