 Six Climb Ride
Still felt a little under the weather today but headed out for a long slow day of climbing. First day I felt cold on the bike in a while which is odd when the temperatures were in the sixties but I guess I was spoiled with the recent heat wave which I'm sure I am one of the few people who regrets its passing. Six climbs today were Odessa, Sullivanville, Latta Brook, Jeruselem Hill, West Hill Road (Harris), and Chambers Road. Started out trying to work the first climb but had some trouble with the bike staying in gear. Put on a new chain last night and thought I had everything worked out on the stand but I had one gear that the chain would not stay on. Several attempts at adjustments failed and the problem was only with the one clog. Not much else I could do other than avoid that cog which is probably my favorite as it appears to be worn more than the others. Kind of lost my need for speed and resigned myself to a long day. Other than Jerusalem hill most of the climbs are long and steady and lack grades over seven percent. Jerusalem gets into the double figures for grade but is fairly short. Rode smooth until the last hill, Chambers, when I decided it would be a good idea to do it in a big chainring. Ended up being a grind and my average speed dropped into the gutter. Had a nice tailwind for the last ten miles of descent that at least got my average back up over fifteen. Legs are getting tired and have to back off a little and rest them as I should be back racing over the coming weekend.
