Still under the weather with nausea and fatigue so I planned on just cruising to Watkins and testing another set of cassettes. I was just cruising slowly through traffic and got buzzed by a racer type. He slowed down enough to say hi then was out of the saddle and gone up the road. Didn't recognize his jersey. Still out of the saddle he made a turn and headed up Old Corning Hill. Road a couple of blocks then decided I'd see if my illness had affected my legs. Turned around and headed back to the climb. Figured if he was hardcore I'd probably not see him on the hill at all. The climb is about a mile long with the first third being around ten percent grade and the remainder varying between two and five percent. Wasn't able to see him at all on the steep part but caught siight of him after getting on the sloping part. With some effort I got my spin going and was able to close and catch him before he got to the top. Didn't get to ride with him long though as he was visiting relatives at the hospital. Since I had already gained the elevation decided to head down Johnson Hollow and catch a tailwind back from Millport. Was just cruising easy when I was ambushed again as a guy flew by me riding down on his timetrial bars. I accelerated and got in his draft and set in for awhile. When the shoulder widened to safely allow side by side riding I pulled up next to him and asked him where he was headed. Turns out he lives in Horseheads and has a cottage up on Seneca Lake. He was practicing for the cycling section of the Great Race which he plans on doing with his sons. Rode with him until Watkins where we parted and I headed for home. I had expected just a trash miles day but ride turned out to be quite peasant and got triple the miles I had planned on.
