Had high hopes when I went out today that I would climb as well as I did yesterday and that I had finally shaken the mental block that is hampering my climbing. Never really got to test the legs though as the heart seemed to be a bit worn today and wouldn't elevate much above one forty despite my effort. So ended up with a poor climb up New Odessa and that pretty much set the stage for the rest of the ride. Tried to push the flats between Odessa and the Junction but a combination of fatigue and a headwind held be back a bit and rolled in with a four minute deficit from a decent split. Resigned myself to a cruise day after the junction and just kept a steady pace through the rollers to Van Etten. Although the legs were a bit tired I never tire of the climb up twisting Swartout Hill. Felt like I was climbing well on the lower slope as I followed the stream up the pass and really didn't bog down until the steeper sections in the middle. Did pick it up over the top. Not sure what happened to the futuristic geomorphic dome house that used to be below the last turn. All that is left are the corpse of the garage and my memories. Did some fairly easy downhill after the climb. Did very little work at all on the rest of the ride with its twenty five miles of downgrade and tailwinds. Finished off a slow but pleasant ride though the end of July in in good spirits.
