 More Climbing
Went out for another day of climbing in the heat and wind. Legs didn't feel much like doing any stand up climbing on the six mile climb by the hospital and past the track but was able to keep a decent speed with a good spin. Pushed a hot headwind over the next sixteen miles of downgrade to Coopers Plains. Didn't have any fire in the legs and had to rely more on spin then power to cross the miles and average speed was somewhat lacking compared with my last ride on this loop. Once to the plains I caught a tailwind to Corning and things including the pace were looking up. Turned into a headwind again as I went uphill towards Caton before the climb up Whiskey Creek. Ride went south when I had another puncture and started to fountain sealant from my rear tire. Had a good gash and got off bike and tried to maneuver tire to get it to seal with limited success. Thought about bypassing the climb and heading home but didn't want to miss the climb as once I got to the top it would be twenty five miles off downhill and strong tailwind. Urge to climb hard was gone and spent the climb listening to the puncture break lose and reseal as I ascended. Was hoping it would eventual stabilize and seal at a pressure that would keep me roadworthy. After a mile or so it did seal and started to get back into the climbing. No longer felt the need for speed though and was more into taking it easy on the way home. Despite taking three large water bottles I again ran out of water. Turned out to be a fairly slow ride and had to discard the tire when I got home as the internal patch I applied started to bubble through the gap. Got some miles in though they were not high quality. Had a puncture last time I rode this coarse so maybe it is just bad Juju. At least I didn't have to walk.
