 Death ride to Ithaca
Planned on doing a relaxed timetrial in the afternoon but as the regular guys had already called in sick figured I'd be doing it alone and would not focus on it and do some climbing on the morning ride. Got on the bike and felt like I'd been dragged through a knothole. Spun New Odessa at an easy pace and hoped I'd feel better after gaining some elevation. Took over ten minutes to get to the top which usually indicates my body is too tired and best choice might be to bag it but always the optomist kept soldiering on. Time check at the Junction was something like five down but since I hadn't done any pushing wasn't concerned. The stretch to the Ithaca from the Junction went well enough with a slight crosswind and miles of downhill to work with. Decided on climbing SR 79 out of the Octopus since I hadn't done it in years as I usually take 96 to T-burg for icecream. Hit the bottom and felt really bad. Checked the grade and saw it was hanging around fourteen percent so figured st least there was a good reason to feel so poorly. Kept trying different gears and climbing modes but ended up dragging myself up the hill. After lots of pain rounded the corner and started the milder ten percent grade and nearly had to get off the bike. Couldn't spin and couldn't stand for long. Drank all I had in the bottles and ate everything in my pockets and barely kept moving, but did stay on the bike. Spin came back a little on the descent to Enfield but disappeared as soon as I started to climb out the other side. Body hurt after finishing the rollers to the crest over Mechlenburg but pain ended there as I hit the downhill than caught the tailwind back to Odessa. Stretch to Odessa went fairly well as I had recovered a little. Coasted the downhill to Montour to finish today's deathride.Wasn't a very nice ride today.

Ate a some rice and bread and rested a couple of hours before the timetrial. Was happy no one else showed up because I wasn't feeling too competetive. Started out fairly well in the big gear with a tailwind but was losing about five seconds a mile on where I needed to be with a climbing tailwind. Rode better than I thought I would and got to the turnaround at ten seconds down with a poor 23.3 avg. Kept my head down and kept the pressure on the way back with the average rising and looking for a fair finish as I rounded mile nine by RBI with at 24.8. Had visions of breaking 25 minutes which would be a boost considering I was severely bonked a scant few hours earlier but came back to reality when I hit the Curse. Got blasted in the face by a severe gust as I crossed the first bridge. Speed dropped down to seventeen and there it stayed as my legs were drained and my spirit was broken. Just spun the last half mile and lost thirty seconds over the span finishing with a 24:37 @ 24.4 mph. Turned out to be a better run than I thought I would have but lost 38 seconds from last week which wasn't that strong a ride.
