Got rained out yesterday and didn't feel much like riding again today. Decided on doing some steep climbing up Catlin Hill. Ride has eleven miles of climbing with two steep climbs. Neither climb went well but wasn't too bad either. Can't seem to stay out of the saddle long without getting winded but climbed steadily while in the saddle. Overall average was quite a bit less than I would have liked but didn't crack either. Was looking forward to the long descent down Chambers Poad which just starts the twenty miles of downhill back home. Thought I would try to put the hammer down as I haven't really been doing much work this week. Had some good speed going and was hoping to keep the momentum up but hit a snag due to road construction. Seems like there is a bridge being replaced on Sing Sing and I needed to detour around it. Detour turned to be an adventure in itself as it added about five miles to the ride and about a mile and a half was on the Interstate. Could have opted to detour around the detour on I86 but that would mean navigating through Consumer Square during rush hour. Thought I would be safer staying on the highway. There was a nice wide shoulder but it was littered with trash, car parts and large amounts of tractor trailor tire retread debris. Got off down by the mall and continued on the ride. I had lost my momentum and initiative and was content to just ride easy for the last fifteen miles. Was a little disapointed that the data I collected on the climbs with my Garmin 305 was askew. Seems that the pressure sensor is not working properly or else my house is now five hundred feet higher than it has been for the last thirty years.
