Morning ride was one of my favorites. Headed up SR14 to Horseheads and traveled up and down Ridge Road to Odessa then down the hill to Montour Falls. Although I should have had a good tailwind up to Horseheads it had enough west vector in it that several sections of the climb felt like it was a headwind. Spun it out though and got to Horseheads with a less than impressive time. Had planned on taking it easy on the climb up Ridge Road as I planned on doing an ITT in the evening but ended up pushing the climb to try to make up time and hopefully build up a little confidence in my climbing legs. Had no snap though and was unable to kick the pace up and ended up just wearing myself down. Pushed the last seven miles of downhill to get my average speed back up to my usual average.
Rode to Watkins in the warm up for the 10 mile ITT to Millport and was not to happy with the gusting winds. I was the only one to show up today so I had no one to chase and no stronger riders breathing down my neck. Wind was still out of the NW as it had been earlier in the day. Tried a fast spin and working on my form today as my legs didn't feel very strong. First and second mile timechecks were a few seconds short of what I consider an average pace. I was running a couple of cogs larger than I normally do and it was showing. Shifted up two cogs on mile three and tried to pick the pace up but soon started going into oxygen debt as the normal greens in my periferral view were taking on a noticibly orange hue. Time checks for miles three and four were average but I was unable to make up the earlier lost time and had to shift back up a gear for the last mile to the turnaround as my legs were bogging down. Got to the turnaround with a 23.5 average and then had a poor turnaround as I had to wait for two cars to pass by. Average speed was down to 23.2 as I started the downgrade into the headwind and things didn't look well. Kept a strong pace though and actually got it back up into the cogs I needed it in. Couldn't make up the time I had lost on the front five though and noticed I would have to do the final mile in 2:14 to break the 25 mph wall. Pushed as hard as I could though through the last cursed mile and had a decent run. Got to the final quarter mile downhill and planned on sprinting to the line but as I rounded the corner I noticed that traffic was backed up all the way to the corner. Didn't feel like John Wayneing the finish though so I had to back off. Still broke the 25 mph wall but lost over 40 seconds on last week's time. Overall I felt poorly in the nasty wind and was cursed with NASCAR traffic on the course but will take it as draw as far as the ride went as I rode the course at maximum effort.
