Didn't feel very energized for riding today as legs were tapped out yesterday and there was a fairly good wind blowing. Unfortunately, my weight has been shooting back up as I have been slacking off the riding while trying to shake my ever-present sinus infection. So pretty much had to get some miles in but didn't really put much effort into the ride. Conventional wisdom in the last century was that the best way to burn fat on a bike was at a fifteen mile an hour steady pace. That thinking may be considered outdated today, but I am a product of the last century. So headed up Fitpatrick Hill at a slow climbing pace to hopefully burn some fat calories and ride through the woods on the hillside to avoid the impact of the south wind. Once I got over the climb and into the rolling sections my legs felt better, and I picked up the pace. Rolled into Horseheads with a time that would be good in March but a bit on the slow side for August. Caught the tailwind in Horseheads and made good speed down through the slot to Montour. Ended up over the fifteen I was shooting for, but I assume that is basically for flat roads that are mostly nonexistent in this county. Felt better after the ride then before but doubted ride was long enough to lose any significant weight. Have a couple of weeks until my next event so still have time to hopefully get back in form.
