 Breed Hollow Climbing
Little cooler today as the sun failed to show. Decided to do some climbing in the back hills south of town. Planned on climbing up Cemetary Hill then heading up to Catlin but got shut down when I got to the foot of the climb and found the road closed. Seems someone had dropped some paint off a truck into a ditch and that the road will be closed for a few days as the contaminated soil is removed. Took the back up route up Dug Road that is still a decent climb though longer and without the steep bits. Spun up the climb at a good tempo and did a little speed work to the next climb up Catlin Hill. The second climb didn't go so well as the intial step of the climb is very steep and I always struggle up it.Still stood up and cranked it out and survived the rest of the climb. Nice climb with a good veiw at the top but not heavy rider friendly. Kept heading up and the next climb was Townley Hill. Not really a bad hill but made a little difficult as it comes soon after two big climbs. Breed Hollow is a long fast downhill down to Big Flats and after a fun downhill glide got back to the fourth climb of the day back up Hibbard Road. This one is a very long grind with occasional ten percent grade sections. Kept good pressure on the pedals and had a good climb as I kept the effort on the edge of anaerobic. Got back to the top of Catlin Hill and found the Chambers Road between there and Chambers had been stoned with deep fine particles. It will be awhile before I attempt to descend it. So sped down Catlin and had to brake to keep behind traffic. Kept descending to Watkins and then rode the flats back home. Climbed well and had a good time but put in quite an effort and failed to average fifteen. Still good climbing fun in the woods.
