Took a ride up to Logan after lunch and had a pretty good time. Tried to push the steep climb up Skyline out of the saddle and made it to the Village line before having go back on the saddle. Pretty much collapsed for a few minutes and was unable to obtain escape velocity and just sort of hung there on the hill for a bit. Spin came back once I got over the top and had lots of speed after that. Spun the second milder climb of the ride and made good time over the top to Logan with an assist form a potent tailwind. Had a good downhill to Hector then turned back into the wind. Legs felt great and was able to keep the speed up in the mid twenties for the ride back to Watkins despite the wind. Lost a little off the average getting through the heavy traffic in Watkins and was surprised to finish with an eighteen average. So had a poor climb and still came out with a fast ride.
Decided to try out the legs on the time trial bike since they seemed to be charged up. Made some adjustments of my seat by raising it and dropping the nose in hopes of getting a little better position. Didn't plan on going all out since I would be riding alone and was more interested in form than time. Also extended the bars a little more since it seemed to help last week. Had a solid wind blowing out of the south at the start. Had a little trouble out of the blocks today as a car backed out in front of me and had to do some minor course corrections to get around him. Got up to speed quickly after that though and carried good speed over the top of the first knoll. Time was down at the first mile and picked up the pace for the second and made it back. Second knoll went well and time looked good at the three mile mark for a headwind out. Third knoll was marginal but kept the speed above twenty but it cost too much and had my speed drop to nineteen around mile four. Had to do a little recovery and rolled up to the turnaround with a twenty-three average but had to stop and wait for traffic. Hadn't shut down my auto-stop function on my computer, so I didn't lose much time but did lose momentum. Finally got turned around and started the backside with a 22.8 average. Put some effort into getting back up to speed and went over thirty at seven. Was able to keep the speed above thirty for a mile and a half and had picked the average back up to 25.2 by RBI curve. Had nothing left after mile nine and lost time through the curse and struggled a little at the end. Turned in the third best time of the year which was better than I thought I would dowith a 23:56. Struggled on the way up but had great speed on the way back. Had exhausted myself though and could barely keep the pedals moving on the cool down ride and was quite dizzy after getting off the bike.
