Another cool day with weather changing back and forth between sun and brief light showers. Wanted to do some speed work and so headed out to Sullivinville in hopes that the road may have been resurfaced since I last rode up there. Had a fair climb to Odessa and a brisk ride to Alpine. Thought I would have a good overall split but fell twenty seconds short of a good time. Really not too bad though with a headwind. Didn't really push the climb up SR13 out of Alpine and rested the legs for the upcoming speed work on the twenty five miles of downgrade back to Montour. Found that despite my wishes that thirteen hasn't been resurfaced yet and if any highway in the area needs it is this one. Shoulder is full of rim breaking potholes and so riding the shoulder isn't the best option unless you are comfortable weaving in and out of the traffic lane on this high volume road. Hit the big gear after I got over the climb and flew down into Horseheads maintaining speeds in the upper twenties and low thirties despite the headwind. Had high expectations as I rolled through Hanover Square that I might be able to break the twenty average barrier but lost it with a poor performance between Horseheads and Pine Valley. Still was able to get a nineteen with a strong run over the last ten miles. Really need to climb better to get the averages up but still have an occasionally strong ride pushing the big gears
