Took Sunday off as just didn't feel much like riding, so planned on a longish day today without much climbing for a low impact effect. Decided on the Corning-Elmira loop which starts with a long moderate highway climb and then has fifty miles of gradual downhill with only an occasional bump. Wanted to have some kind of goal to pass the miles as the route is very scenic not terribly challenging. Decided that I should be able to spin out an eighteen average without much stress. Thought if I could get to Elmira with a seventeen I should be able to pick up at least a mile an hour on the run down SR 14. Climb went fairly smoothly as had a mild tailwind following me. Got a little cool after the climb as the sun never showed up and got a little light rain. Road was wet in places but looked like I avoided most of the local showers. Legs felt good and rolled into Corning in fair shape. River Road has a little more traffic then it used to but everyone gave me lots of room. Had to stop near the drive-in and wait for the paving crews again. Got to sprint a mile or so of new pavement when they finally let me through. Rolled into Elmira with over my eighteen so backed it off a little on the way home and enjoyed the spinning. Not a bad ride today but almost always saw other riders on this route yet none were seen today.
