Training update & custom replacement rear wheel
Less than three weeks from the start of the tour and I'd like to think training is going well, but I am actually afraid it is a little under target.

My riding this past Saturday started out pretty good, but I called it short, after 60 miles, due to feeling "bonk'd". I was struggling going up hill - I think it was related to not eating much for dinner Friday night. To top it off, when I reached my work office (CEPM) the lunch room was getting a paint job, so refilling my bottles and grabbing a snack to eat was not going to be its usual process.

After riding in the Moonlight Ramble Sunday morning (http://www.moonlightramble.com/ - it official start time was Midnight), I felt OK, and didn't ride Sunday afternoon - choosing to catch a nap instead.

After completing 40-miles on my standard Monday Night Ride in St Charles (in just over 2 hours averaging 19.1 mph but it is a very flat course) I feel a little more confident about my physical condition. A better tell-tell sign will be my ride results after the end of this week. Saturday (8/27) is a 100-mile ride in Millstadt, IL - and if things go well I will do some extra miles, going 120-140 miles, depending on weather, etc.

When I started my ride on Saturday, I thought what I was riding on was a custom-built replacement wheel - an attempt to circumvent future issues with broken spokes. When I got to CEPM, I had a voice mail on my cell phone. Upon listening to it, the guys at the bike shop had given Jacque my old wheel (slightly rebuilt) and not the custom built wheel I had ordered. So Saturday afternoon I took the wheel back and picked up my actual custom built replacement wheel. The early reviews say the wheel will be a good move for stability and durability.
