I headed out today to get my weekly mileage in with another longer ride. Between work and the weather I just haven't been able to get my rides in the last two weeks. I'd much rather make 3 15-mile rides, but when you can't get on the road you have to do what you have to do. I rode in the high sun which is something that I seldom do and it like to killed me! I knew that I was done just over a mile from the house but pushed on home and nearly passed out at home. Now I have cooled off and am re-hydrating. The ride itself was fairly nice. I rode from the house and took East North Street downtown, passed by the downtown post office onto Washington Street, and followed it to the Swamp Rabbit trail. I followed the trail north through Furman, Travelers Rest, and on to the north end of the trail. Then I turned around and followed nearly the same path home. I stopped at the gazebo going back south through TR to get a quick drink at around 15 miles. I also stopped at Alley Kat's at 20 miles and bought a small bottle of Gatorade there. Ally wasn't there but her grandma was (she called herself "Granny-Kat!") I also stopped at 26 and a quarter miles along East North Street for a drink because I was starting to fail. Even though I have ridden this far in much higher heat I don't tolerate the sun very well. The red hair has been gone for many years, but the red-headed complexion is always there. Even though I nearly overdid it. it was still a very good ride.
I found this article on Channel 7's website featuring Alley Kat's
