Yesterday was our first official day at our new office building on Page Ave - I had to remember to get off of I-170 one exit sooner than I've done for the better part of the past 16+ years. There was a 22 month stent when my department was transplanted to a 'sister' division's office building that is just a couple hundred yards from where we are at now, so this change in my commute is not completly unfamiliar - and that holds true when I commute by bike, too.
So, my bike commute follows the same route as the first half of what I've done before; now I just need to get off of Brown Rd somewhere between St Charles Rock Rd and Midland Blvd and go east a few blocks so I can cross over I-170 at Midland Blvd (with no on/off ramps), then continue south on Walton Rd. Back when I temporarily transplanted to the Walton Rd office building, my commute would end before the bottom of the hill where Walton Rd meets Page Ave, but now I need to cross Page and our new building can be then accessed via the second drive on the right.
As I was descending the hill today I could see a handful of cars & a truck waiting for the light to cycle, as well as a few cars coming north that were most likely turning left to go West on Page. I kept thinking to myself how soon until it cycles? If I get there to soon then I have to figure out if I can ride up the right side of the sitting traffic; if I get there to late, then I have to sit kind of in the middle of the traffic lane (so anyone looking to turn right has room to do so on red and anyone going straight or turning left will just have to wait for me to clear out of the way). Turns out I hit it with perfect timing. The light turned green as I was still approaching the intersection, and all the traffic - both northbound & southbound – was able to get on their way (and out of my way) so I could sail smoothly through the intersection as the light turned yellow.
