 Rock Stream
Decided against going down to Binghamton and doing the Thater Crit this year as still miffed over them cancelling the race a couple years ago and not refunding my pre-register fee. That coupled with my recent lack of either power or speed recently made the decision easy. Still have a few more races to go this year so went out and rode hard on the Rock Stream route with the twenty mile climb and twenty five mile decent. Winds turned out to be favorable on this outing as although had to ride the first ten into a light north wind as I neared the turnoff to Rock Stream the wind started to shift into the west and before the ride was over shifted again and ended the ride with a southern tailwind. Had a good climb out of Watkins and had good speed across the false flats into the light wind. Second climb to Reading Center lacked a little but was pushing into a little wind resistance. Math didn't look too good as I rolled into Reading Center for a strong average speed as dropped a half mile an hour more than normal on the climb. Church St climb went okay though and didn't really loose too much on the remainder of the climb up to Sugar Hill. Over the top the math didn't look too good for the magic twenty but still had a shot for a nineteen if I could do the last twenty five at a little over twenty two. Hammered the downhill into Townsend and had a good climb out of it on the short steep climb toward Beaver Dams. Lucked out the winds for the rest of the ride were either following cross or tailwinds. Concentrated on picking up the average one tenth every mile which usually works well until Johnson Hollow where things bog down. Didn't happen today though as just kept picking up speed. Kept the pressure on and finished with a nineteen one which beats my previous best of nineteen zero. So felt pretty good after the ride and certainly was a lot cheaper than driving to Binghamton for the crit
