After a fairly lazy day of activity I headed out to get in a ride. I took my route on East North Street to the Swamp Rabbit and back as I have done many times lately. Since it was the weekend there was no rush hour traffic along East North and Park Avenue to deal with. Once on the trail I was approaching the crossing at Sulphur Springs Road when I spotted a co-worker Craig along with his wife Debbie and a couple of their grandkids. We talked for a couple of minutes then I headed across Sulphur Springs to go north and they turned around to head back toward Linky Stone. I rode on north to Furman and turned back south. I stopped at Alley Kats for a bottle of Gatorade and chatted with Alley's grandfather. Then it was on south to head for the house, but shortly after I went under Cedar Lane Road I spotted Craig's wife Debbie and the kids along the side of the trail. The boy had the chain break on his bike which caused him to wreck and left him a little beat up. He had some road rash on his left shoulder and the knuckle on his left hand, and a knot on his forehead. Craig had taken off to get the pickup and come back to pick them up. I hung around with Debbie until Craig made it back to get them. Debbie was a little worried about being there with just the kids so having a big ugly friend of her husband there settled her mind somewhat. After Craig made it back and loaded all the bikes and people in their truck the rest of the ride was pretty uneventful.
I have been riding for a year now and logged 2068 miles during that time. That isn't much by serious rider standards, but it's a lot of me and I fairly proud of it. I set a goal of 2000 miles for the year 2010 and am well on my way to that goal. I should log 200 miles some time in November.
