Yesterday's race in Binghamton got cancelled due to hurricane Irene. Didn't feel bad about that at all except for the loss of my entry fee which I doubt very much will be refunded. Really didn't want to do a criterium in the rain as they are dangerous enough on dry roads. Decided to take a couple days off the bike and headed down to Virginia to check out a couple of amusement parks. Stopped in Doswell and planned on going to King's Dominion. Since the park didn't open until ten I had a took a little spin on the bike. Just rode out ten miles on the bike turned around and came back. Was really disappointed I didn't have my camera with me as I saw a general store at an old railroad station that had the front yard filled with interesting items. They had a giant open hand, row boats, odd colored horses and even Uncle Sam on a bicycle. Thought the ride would be flat but soon found myself climbing a twelve percent grade. When I got to the top I rode the ridge and got my miles in an doubled back. Nice riding but was a little depressing that the corn in the fields was dry and brown. Usually doesn't happen up north until the frost stops by for a visit. Returned through Smashapenny Junction and went to the park to dine on junk food.
