 Round the Lake
Took the weekend off to try to shake an ear and nasal infection. Wasn't sure how I'd feel today but wanted to get back on the bike as I have a century coming up next weekend and needed to get the legs used to some long miles. Cloudy and cool today and was a little chilly when I started out but only when the wind was blowing. Thought the legs felt good on the first climb out of Watkins but average over the top wasn't very good and was hoping it was the headwind that gave me the slow time. Decided on doing then scenic route as wasn't sure how much of my system was still occupied by the infection. Had good legs to Glenora and kept head down in the wind so much so that I missed my turn to Lakemont. Got back on course with ashort climb back up to the ridge. Had some snap on a few of the rollers and even surprised myself with a great climb out of the Keuka Inlet at Dresden. Ran across three riders out of Geneva along the way but didn't ride with them long as one of them stopped to take some pictures of the lake from the ridge. Rolled into Geneva with an average of over seventeen which felt good for having an easy pace with a headwind. Turned into the tailwind and thought I would be doing some serious speed on the way back and had a good ride to Samson. Cut through the park as part of the scenic tour and lost a bit of time on the poor road surface. Decided to climb to Ovid rather than take the normal route south of Lodi as the road was all torn up last time I went through and made for some unpleasant climbing. Had another good climb up to Ovid and stopped into McDonalds for lunch. Didn't generate much speed on the downhill back home as the wind had shifted from the north to the west. Still turned out to be a fun ride and system seems to be running well despite the running nose and earache.
