Got in late last night and spent yesterday feasting on carny food so felt like taking a liesurely ride today. Seemed a good day for ice cream and Trumansburg has my ice cream stand of choice. Spun up Jackson Hill and descended into Odessa then headed out to Cayutaville. Sun is heading back south and so a good part of the Cayutaville route is in perpetual shade and makes for a beautiful ride. Had some unpleasantness after passing through Cayutaville as it seems the farmers had been spraying liquified natural fertilizer on the local fields and it was so pungent that it was difficult to breathe. Turned the bend and saw that the tanker was working its way up the hill ahead of me so I had even more incentive to ride slowly. Soon a combine\thresher pulled out behind me and started following me up the hill. My competive streak kicked in and I felt the need not to get caught on the climb by the huge farm machine. Thought I had him easy but them I think the driver also had a competitive streak and heard him reving his engine and was closing the gap. Started climbing hard and got over the top and was able to speed away from my pursuer who had no chance of catching me on a downhill. Heart rate had gone up much higher than I had wanted it to do but it did provide the day's excitement. Rolled into T-burg and got my normal Raspberry milkshake which as usual was delicious. Started heading up the hill toward Steamburg but explored some backroads rather than going over the top as I think the bridge is still out on CR4 and didn't really feel like adding another climb out of Valois. Had a good time cruising today.
