Weather Conditions: Sunny. N wind 5-8 mph. 60°. |
Ride Description: Checking out the PTNT. It's 70% fairly bumpy on the Cyclocross bike, nothing bone jarring, but not smooth. It's mostly grass and gravel, the smoothest parts are the all grass sections. Watch out for critter holes!
It's only 5.5 miles long, so I added some slow "Meandering Trail" exploration near the Clinton Trail. |

Ride Description: After raking the trail, I went for a little ride. Chest pain early on. |

I finally got out to ride a local Rail-to-Trail path I've seen a lot, but had never ridden. The PTNT is a Multi-Use Trail for Hiking, Horseback Riding, Bicycling and Snowmobiling.
The trail is mostly short grass with some dirt and rocky gravel sections, It's fairly bumpy on the cyclocross bike, but nothing bone jarring. I need to explore different tire pressures on the Poprad.
Watch out for Groundhog/critter holes. The grassy sections were pretty smooth. The trail was well maintained, and didn't have a lot of debris on it.
For a trail only 5.5 miles long, they sure have a lot of rest/picnic areas and shelters. There are at least eight of them.
If you're looking a nice quiet country ride, pick another trail, because about half of the trail runs next to Highway 43, a four lane divided road that connects Beloit and Milwaukee. It's not a super busy highway, but you're more likely going to hear traffic noise than chirping birds.
After riding the trail, I explored some narrower trails on both sides of the PTNT near the Clinton Wisconsin Trailhead. They're tight, twisty and slow, with a lot of debris and sticks.
Overall, it was a nice day for a ride.
This might be a nice Mukluk trail in the Winter.
