I've been trying to regulate my riding using my body battery and the outcome hasn't been very good as it takes me and off day to get to fifty percent after a ride where I put out a decent effort and two days off to get above eighty percent. I've set fifty percent as my minimum to ride and since I barely had that this morning it was going to be another short distance. Temperatures are starting to get a bit cool in the mornings as the fall weather is starting to blow in from the north. It was cloudy today and the north wind was blowing but it was still comfortably in the eighties, and no rain was forecast. Did one of my shorter rides with just one hill but still has a taste of climbing with a thousand feet of gain over the twenty mile course. I started out fairly well with the slight tailwind reaching the foot of the hollow at fourteen five that seems to me my fast time currently. Climb wasn't too bad spinning in the saddle but kind of bogged down once I was over the steep section. Where back in the day we used to keep the speed in the high teens now I am only hovering around twelve. I was keeping it in the mid-teens just two years ago and best case I'll be able to get back to that speed. The downhill section comes thirteen miles into the ride and had fair speed into the slight headwind to the top of the big descent overlooking Watkins. Had the average over fifteen by the top, so the day could at least be a declared a decent pace. The descent into Watkins was surprisingly fast as usually the north wind off the lake gets funneled up the hill keeping things slowed. Today though speed was in the high thirties and put me well enough above sixteen to keep the average at sixteen at the finish. As a bonus the fast descent was quite enjoyable. Turned out to be a short fun though maybe a bit over familiar ride.
