Took a short ride with a actual theme today. Watkins Glen puts on an event where race cars from several decades race for two controlled loops through the US Grand Prix route that was run in the streets of the village and the surrounding hills before it was moved to the modern track on the hill in the early seventies. Today's schedule I anticipated if it was similar to years past should start with a rally around mostly Schuyler County in the early morning, followed by a stop on the main street of Montour for a showing, and then the actual laps around Watkins in the early evening. I have recently planned my ride to coincide with the typical morning rally course. I usually get to ride beside street legal racing cards from several decades. Not sure which type was this year's theme, but it runs a gamut from early Triumphs. sixties muscle cars to exotic supercars. So pedaled off fairly easily up the valley to Johnson Hollow with no intention of riding hard as have a full century tomorrow that I am ill-prepared for. Caught a slight tailwind up to the hollow and put in an average time with the legs feeling fairly strong. Started up the climb and was anticipating seeing most of the cars on the trip through the hollow. Was quite disappointed that instead of dozens of classic cars only was passed by two what I think were Renaults. Still had a decent morning ride. Rode into Montour and passed the staging area and just a couple cars were there. So, I think that they may have changed the rally route or I was too early this year or both. Got a ride warm ride in regardless.
