Looked pretty raw out but as I had ridden in the teens earlier in the yearand thought so how bad can the fifties be. Turned out to be mighty unpleasant. Plan was to just ride out and do some hills but even with my layered climbing I was still chilly on the climbs. Wanted to go out and measure Bronson Hill up by the track but never got to it. Rode up Dug Road and was sheltered from the north wind but once I got going over the hill in Moreland I lost all protection. Went straight down the hill to SR 414 rather than going down Russell Hill road that would have dropped me near the base of Bronson Hill. Ended up near Beaver Dams and decided to take the long gradual climb to Townsend rather than go into the north wind to get back to Bronson as my hands were getting quite numb. Stayed climbing up into the Sugar Hill area and planned on descending into Watkins and catching a tailwind home. Ended up climbing through Van Zandt Hollow that has a really steep climb that is easily 20+%. Didn't get good data on it though as I was leaning over the GPS and blocking the signal or something as I kept losing sattelite reception. Will have to go back and check it out on a warmer day. Didn't get many miles in today but the twenty-five was enough. Thumbs were still numb forty-five minutes after I finished the ride.
