 Fast Day
Mark and Joe showed up for a speed work ride, and so we headed out on the Sullivinville Course. Wanted to take it easy on the climb up New Odessa hill but Joe had other ideas and hit the bottom of the hill hard. Had a hard time hanging on but Mark and I outlasted him and opened up a good gap over the top. We on going and Joe caught up by Odessa in time for the first five mile speed section to Alpine Junction. Ran into trouble quickly as bike wouldn't shift into the big chainring and lost the draft while trying to get it to work. Got it into the big ring and had to chase to catch up. Caught back up in time to take a couple of hard pulls to the Junction. Dropped the boys on the climb out of the Junction up SR13. Got over the top with a good gap and took the speed up to thirty on the downhill. Thought I had a good shot at not being caught to Horseheads as had a good tailwind but slowed and waited for the boys to catch up. Didn't take them long catch and they slowed up enough to let me to get on after blowing by me. We did another seven miles of speed work pulling at our limits to Horseheads. Got gapped once when I missed the draft after my pull but didn't get dropped as just had to maintain the speed on my own until Mark slowed up at the end of his pull. We took it fairly easy to Hanover square then picked the pace up for third speed section down SR 14. We hammered our way back to Montour and dropped Joe on the small climb by the Honda shop. Drafted Mark until Joe caught back on then we started hitting it again. Noticed my heartrate was higher while drafting then it was when I was pulling though speeds were equivalent. So looks like I was using as much effort to catch back on as I was pushing the wind. Joe dropped off again over the bridge construction segment while Mark and I finished it off. Averaged over twenty one before the final cool down mile. Put out a good effort today both with speed and climbing.
