 Fitzpatrick Open Again
Only my second ride of the week. Body still not recovering and weather has been either damp or windy. Wind was at least not blowing today though it was a bit chilly earlier in the day and the sun hadn't made an appearance at all. Headed up to Horseheads via the valley at a fairly easy pace. Made no pretense of even riding well and just tried to enjoy the ride. Still kept looking at the computer even though I was trying to avoid it. Got to Millport at thirteen that was pretty slow and finally quit checking the average and focused on pedaling smoothly. Got to Horseheads and headed across Wygant to ascend Ridge Road. Climbed comfortably and had a good climb to the high point overlooking Seymoreville. Decided since I was having a pleasant ride to head back south on Middle Road instead of doing the six-mile fast descent home. It is still a fast descent at least to the Millport Hill Rd. Decided to check out Fitzpatrick Hill Road that has been closed for construction all year. Detour signs were still there but no longer facing the road. Found a bridge has been replaced at the base of Frost Hill. Mystery solved. So headed downhill again. Passed two sets of two riders heading south as I was northbound. One of the guys yelled at me that I was going the wrong way. Kind of weird. Only two rides this week and on both of them someone yelled I was going the wrong way. Downhill and tailwind seemed like a good way for me, so I kept going despite the advice. Had a good time over the two-mile drop. Not a bad time on the first cool weather ride of the fall season. Bit depressing though as the cool nights have already caused the leaves to start changing color. Good slow climbing day.
