Legs still felt pretty good after yesterday's ride but didn't feel like taking a long ride so opted to a short climb with a bit more of a challenging grade than normal. Have a race coming up I don't have high hopes for but need to get climbing better so at least I don't embarrass myself. Headed to Rock Stream but instead of the normal highway climb up SR 14 went up Steuben St in Watkins up to haunted Irelandville. Climb is a mile or so long with sections of eight and ten percent. Kept out of the saddle for a good start up the first rise and was able to keep good pressure on the pedals after sitting. Legs are finally starting to put out more watts but fear season will be over before I can feel strong again. Once over the rise to Irelandville the climb continues to Reading Center with a couple percent grade. Had a slight tailwind that helped a bit and was able to get to the top with a good time. Put some effort into the downhill to Rock Stream and into the wind back along the highway overlooking the lake. Had a strong downhill into Watkins and went into town with a satisfying seventeen average that I was able to hold through town and across the swamp. Seventeen averages now seem to be fairly easily obtainable which is a relief after struggling most of the summer to get fifteens. Now dreaming of eighteens again but will need to keep getting stronger on the climbs and lose some weight. Doubt either will happen soon but feels good to have some stronger rides.
