The parking lot was dry and the sky was clear when we first hit the road this morning – the best start of the week. The wind was blowing out the west, and forecast indicated that it should change to come out of the northwest by late morning. The route started by heading west for about 5 miles then we would head south most of the time, thus allowing for a crossing, then a tailwind, into Milwaukee.
The first picture shows the clear sky, the moon hanging pretty high, and Dave, Christy, and Joe ahead of me, just a few miles from the start. With the temp starting out in the mid-50’s and a bit of a nip in the air, I updated my wardrobe before heading out of the hotel to include tights, not just to keep my legs warm in this chilly temp, but to also help my left knee from aching so much during the early morning climbs.
The second picture is around mile 40, not long after we turned onto Lake Shore Dr. Just before taking this picture I noticed a couple of huge houses on the right side of the road and thought it would be really nice if they had a view other than the road and the houses across the street – then I looked to my left and saw the standard size (for the area) house and the lake glistening a few hundred yards behind it.
The third picture is the final look at the route we traced over the last 7 days.
