 Logan
Dithered around today on which course to ride and finally settled on the Logan loop as I haven't ridden on the new pavement yet and it has been down for a few weeks. This used to be one of my more frequent courses but since I've gained a few pounds the initial mile long steep climb has persuaded me to avoid it this year. It was no surprise then as I struggled up the first mile of the ride. Still unable to do much out of the saddle and ended up slowly spinning my way to the top. Had a little north wind today which kept the speed down on the section to Burdett, but the good valley view and smooth pavement started to add up in the plus column for the ride. Had a fair climb up the mild hill to Logan and had an unpleasant encounter with some horse people. I went across the opposite lane and rode up opposite shoulder against traffic to give them some room, but it obviously wasn't enough as one of the horsemen yelled at me that I need to make noise while passing horses. I really would have liked to yell back at them that they really need to clean up after thier horses if they are going to ride them in the roads but really wanted to save my breathe for the climb. I continued on to Logan with no other unpleasant encounters and then did the fast descent down CR 2 which was also reported to have been recently paved. There is new pavement on the steep section at the bottom that used to have some nasty washboard around the bend. The new surface is a welcome improvement and I just hope it lasts awhile. Had hoped to push some big gears in the tailwind back along the lake but it just didn't seem to develop. Had a couple of strong sections but lacked continuity. Ended up with a decent ride on a cool day despite the poor initial climb.
