Erica and I headed to Furman to ride the Northern end of the Swamp Rabbit Trail. We planned to ride it twice to make 21 miles. I was a little leery of it since my legs hadn't recovered from my ride on Tuesday evening. I got up there early and checked out the Furman baseball team practicing. I saw a few familiar faces on the field. I could also see the football team in pads doing calisthenics, the tennis team was practicing on the courts, the girls' soccer team was on the soccer field, and the girls' softball team was warming up. When Erica arrived we took off through the campus section of the trail, but when we got north of campus it was blocked with a posted detour. That put us on a couple of different back roads, but one was very busy and we also had to cross a very busy 4 lane highway. Once we were back on the path, it went a short way and the path was torn to pieces. It's always been a mess through Travelers Rest but now it's torn up a lot more and the short cuts that I had figures out around the mess are torn up or blocked off. We made another detour coming back across campus and decided not to make the second lap. I would have tried if it wasn't such a mess, but with the mess and my legs being tired we let it go after 11 miles. Once we had some cool water I called Cis and Erica and I met her at Atlanta Bread Company to eat and we sat and talked for quite a while. It was a good ride and I am a whipped puppy!
