Sunday's race day was the end of a good streak of fair riding weather. Rain blew in on Monday and decided to hang around for the week. Although my activities are done in the North for the season, I still have a southern riding tour planned, so needed to stay on the bike. Ended up doing a couple of sessions on the computrainer earlier in the week, but after checking the radar decided on doing some climbing in between showers today. Carefully checked the radar map against my intended route and headed out intending to get forty miles of climbing in. Headed up Old Odessa and ended up mostly spinning as coming out of the saddle produced lackluster results. Rolled into Odessa with a slow average but picked up the pace on SR 228 climb to Smith Valley. Ended up having a good section but was climbing into the fog. Wasn't able to generate much high-speed going toward Mecklenburg but legs at least felt good. Before arriving at SR 79 the fog turned to drops and I was soon riding in the rain. I was hoping the rain would be short-lived but as I crested the climb on SR 79 West I could see that the entire area was being swamped. I was thoroughly soaked, and it looked like I couldn't ride out of the rain in any direction so abandoned ride by returning home down Skyline. Turned out to be a most unpleasant short ride. Had ridden inside to avoid the rain all week in hopes of being healthy for my southern turn but gambled today and lost.
