As I was nearing work this morning, I was noticing a problem with my right foot not getting clicked into the pedal correctly. I was guessing that a pebble or something got caught in the cleat or the pedal and was preventing the cleat to get seat properly. I finished the ride without incident and didn’t think much of it through the day.
When I was leaving work to come home, something was feeling funny again as I pedaled my way across the parking lot. I stopped and did a quick check but didn’t see anything out of the ordinary. I pulled out onto Page Ave, and headed down the hill to make my left onto ‘Walton Rd, then had to way for the traffic signal to cycle. Once I got going up Walton Rd something felt really wrong and all of a sudden the right pedal fell off – the pedal platform came off it’s axel and just fell off onto the pavement.
So now do I call Jacque to come get me, call her to meet me somewhere – how far do I want to try & pedal – or just make my way home. I started again up the hill and was able to pedal fairly steadily, but not completely natural. The axel doesn’t spin as the cranks go around, it just kind of rolls down the sole of the shoe, so I have reposition my foot on the ‘pedal’ every few seconds.
I made it home without much more of an issue, then after mowing the yards I found an old pedal in my stash of stuff and have it installed for the short term.
