Mighty Young Joe came over to ride today and since neither one of us had any desire to do any steep stuff we opted for some moderate climbing and several miles of downhill. Headed up Dug Rd to start things off and got dropped soon after the steep section at the start. Climbed at a moderate pace as I didn’t want to blow up on a group ride. Wasn’t too far behind at the end of the two mile long climb but wasn’t happy about getting dropped. Got a little more aggressive on the mild rolling climb up through Moreland and seemed to put Mighty Young Joe on the defensive. Didn’t do any speed changes or anything and just tried to keep a strong steady pace. Wasn’t able to walk away from him as he had done to me on the first climb but at least I was climbing well enough that I wasn’t concerned about getting dropped. Final hill was out of Chambers and climbed well again on this one. I was able to open up a gap but it proved to be a little costly as maxed the heart rate and then some on the steeper sections. Did some fast coasting on the downhill to the mall. Neither one of us seemed to want to ride hard after the downhill, and although I really wanted to head up Ridge Rd for another moderate climbing session we were running low on sunshine. Rode easy back down SR1 14 to finish off the ride. Can’t understand how the first climb was so poor and the later climbs turned out much better. Temperature had taken a dive but with all the climbing it really didn’t feel too bad. Really going to miss the eighty degree sunny weather that has been so abundant this season.
