Felt really worn when I got up and abandoned plans for the morning climbing. Waited until late in the day for a shorter ride than planned which turned out not to be a good idea. Wind had picked up to an unpleasant level and air was hot and humid with the temperature hovering around ninety. Decided to do Ridge Road Reverse and headed up Jackson Hill. Most of the loose stones from the recent oiling have been pushed to the side of the road and didn't cause any trouble on the climb. The road is probably clean enough for fast descending. Stayed in the saddle on the steeper section today and spun my way up the climb. Usually pick up the speed when the incline slackens off but didn't do much in today's headwind. Speed really dropped after making the turn in Catherine, and I began to suffer. Legs were empty and had a difficult time keeping the front wheel going straight into the wind. Only had a couple of miles to do before reaching the downhill so toughed it out. Had a real difficult time on the last climb out of Seymourville and kept my eyes on the road in front of me instead of looking up the climb. Every time I did glance up at the peak it never looked any closer and thought it looked about as close as the moon at times. Finally crested and headed down the new sweet pavement. Had a couple good sections where I felt I was going fairly fast despite the headwind, and that was encouraging after the dismal climbing. Horseheads to Montour was all downgrade and killer tailwind and again had fast sections but legs would empty out quickly and had to add periods of soft pedaling to let them recharge. Rough day on the bike overall.
