 Bonnie Dundee
Had planned on going to the Scottish Festival in Dundee but due to an illness of my significant otter went to plan B and rode the bike up to at least view the parade. Got a late start and had to push the climb out of Watkins to make it to Dundee before the start of the parade. Turned out to be a cloudy cool day but although it was damp it didn’t feel like rain. Took the short version of the ride by doing a short climb over the ridge at Glenora. Got there with a couple of minutes to spare. I was really impressed with the parade put on by one of our Podunk villages. There were seven bagpipe bands as well as highland dancers, costumes, along with various tractors pulling a soccer team and high school football team. The only part I didn’t enjoy were the local politicians glad handing for votes. Was very pleased to see the parade participants throwing candy along the roadside for the watching children. Kids seemed excited and none were run over by the floats. All good things must come to an end and so did the parade. Didn’t feel like putting many miles in but didn’t want to head straight back either. Headed south out of Dundee until I picked up SR 226 and headed up the valley to Altay. Didn’t feel up to the two mile climb up Sebring Hill and instead vent for the climb up CR 22. I have ridded down the hill dozens of times but have never gone up it. Turned out to be a nice climb and was a little surprised when sections of it neared twenty percent grade. Probably shouldn’t have been surprised as it always has been a fast downhill. Labored over the top and was accosted by a bothersome dog. Dog lunged at me a bit but wasn’t sure whether he was mean or painful. Grade finally got slight enough that I could accelerate away from hill. Didn’t get much speed on the downhill to Monterey either because I’d my legs were tired or the wind was picking up. Had one last climb out of Townsend then finished off the day with a fast descent past the speedway to home. Felt good after the ride despite the gloomy weather.
