Ride Description: First Ride of the year! After mid 50's the last couple days, most of of snow is gone with only a few areas of hard packed icy snow left. The 16° temps froze the grass and was easy riding.
I found a watch on the trail and retuned it to John.

BarMitts Rule!
I got to ride on the 1st day of the year again this year, yeah!
My first decision was were to ride. I could either take my Super V-1 over to the frozen Long Prairie & Stone Bridge Trails and put some miles on the Nokian studs, or check out the back yard singletrack. Because Sue was sick this morning, I thought it would be best riding close to home.
The temperature was 16°F, But it was very windy, 21-35 mph!!! Making it -1°F Wind Chill. It was in the 50's the last two days, and almost all of our beautiful snow has melted. Only a few sections of trail had hard packed icy snow on it. Oh yeah, the Mukluk handled the snow/ice wonderfully, I think I only spun the tires a couple times, climbing an icy hill.
It was also my first real test of the BarMitts Sue got me for xmas, They are awesome! I was out for 1 hour and 30 minutes, wearing only my Pearl Izumi 8817 Spring gloves, which are like regular mountain bike gloves with the addition of tuck away "Lobster" wind breaker covers for your fingers, and my hands were toasty warm!!! (I kept the "Lobster" covers tucked away.) I think I could have even gone without gloves!
The BarMitts allow me to wear thin gloves in the cold, which makes operating my camera very easy. I LOVE these. At first glance, you'd think they might be a little difficult to get "into", but that wasn't the case. I got used to the "enclosed" feeling quickly, and then just enjoyed my warm hands.
I would recommend BarMitts for any Winter/cold weather rider. They are amazing. And they are available for Road & Mountain bikes. Check them out... barmitts.com/
