I have been lusting after this bike for some time. When it was posted for sale I was afraid I might have missed being first in line.
I was.
Worked out a deal with the seller and had it shipped to Coventry Cycles in Portland Oregon. That's a story for another day. The current owner, Marilyn, is a cancer survivor who quit her day job to buy a bike store. She's doing okay with it.
Flew from Miami on June 2nd and didn't get in until the evening.
Could not wait for Friday morning. Had cable internet and TV guy to wait for. Once he was done the installation I was on my way to Coventry.
Marilyn had one of her mechanics wheel it out. Oh my gosh. What a sweet looking bike. She said this one was in pristine condition. She has an Aero Basso that she uses for commuting to work. They call it the Frankenstein bike, it's had so much done to it.
The Aero Basso was conceived in the early 2000's as the little sister to the Bachetta Ti Aero, a dual 650c Ti bike. The idea was to make a bike for the smaller rider because with a bent called a highracer (dual big wheels) some "verically challenged" riders have problems sitting on the recumbent seat and having their feet properly planted on the floor when stopped. Personally, I'm tippy toes on a high racer. Yah, I'm short, but I walk tall!!!
The Aero Basso just didn't catch on so now for the recumbent community it is a collector's bike as only 50 were made. Well, I like to think of it as a collector's bike. Yes, I'm collecting bikes. Look at my profile.
I had a Ti Aero but sold it as I was going to be in South AFrica for 2.5 years and it would sit in the garage. A Ti Aero needs to be ridden, so it should go to someone who will ride it....and often. Plus, with a highracer the BB is elevated compared to a 20/26 configured bent. I much prefer the "feel" on a 20/26 recumbent. The bike just fits me much more betterer.
Took the Aero Basso home did me maiden voyage....ok..her maiden voyage too.
I love this bike. This will be my ride it mostly bike, except in bad weather unless I have to.
