A different adventure for the ride to work today. First, I drove our truck over to Jacque's father's house, it will be there when she gets him home from the hospital - Jacque has been driving his car since taken him to the hospital from chruch on Sun. Then, I rode my bike from there to work. Now I've ridden from work to there a few times before, and he doesn't live that far from church so I'm very familiar with the possible routes, but it is still different going the other direction. Add on top of that, the wind is still out of the south (@12mph, gusting 23), so I would still be riding into a stiff headwind most of the way to work.
Compound all that with a slight mechanical problem on the bike. I shifted onto the large chainring last night on the way home, taking advantage of the tailwind & trying to beat the light at Hanley & Airport roads, and today as I was trying ascend one the first hills on this morning's route, I realized that is why it seemed so hard to pedal (and this was a brief section with a tailwind). So I rotated the shifter to move the chain back into the middle chainring, only to discover the derailleur is dirty and wouldn't budge. I tried to nudge it with my right foot as I was rolling down the street, with no success, but never bothered stopping to try to get it to cooperate by using my hands - I just grunted it out on the few hills.
Then as I was trying to make my way through Brekenridge Hills & Overland, I altered my route so I wouldn't have to get onto Midland & cross Woodson road, which ended up dumping on Woodson Rd since that particular intersection did not continue across. No problem. Traffic looked light enough, I headed south and went to make the next left, and then saw the sign about 'no outlet' - that's OK I didn't want to climb that hill anyway so I turned around to get back onto Woodson, and had to wait for a handful of cars to turn on this street - quite a busy (residential looking) street for having no outlet...after continuing on Woodson 40-50 yards, I then turned onto the next street - its up hill too. I grind up the hill only to find out it dead ends into a school that's still under construction - BUT THERE WAS NOT A SIGN SAYING NO OUTLET ON THIS STREET! Ugh - back to Woodson to get to the next street. Burton - I know this street will get me to a point on my regular morning route. 15-20 minutes I am at work.
A couple things I saw this morning that was out of the ordinary. First, as I was passing by Ritenour Middle School, there was a Little Tykes Work Bench play set sitting on one of the cornors across the street from the school - I didn't see any of the tools/accessories. There are so many thoughts that come to mind about this toy & the middle schoolers - that's all I'm going to say.
Then as I rolled into the parking lot at work, there were three Canadian geese scrounging around one of the grassy knolls. I've seen geese at Norman Myers Park, about a 1/2 mile from here (as straight as the crow flies  ), and they're there probably because of the nearby Lake Sherwood, but why are they over here scrounging for food? Oh well.
