Comments: Seagull Century metric with L. This is the 19th time we've done it together. Every year since 2003. 2015 was cancelled by a hurricane, 2020 and 2021 scratched by Covid.
We had a pretty fast pace -- 15.6. Last year was under 14. I think the difference is that L. is in great shape. He's been running a lot, lately.
The weather was great -- broken clouds and mid 70's. This was a pleasant development. Just a few days ago, the forecast was calling for rain.
We both stayed last night in Salisbury, and got a pretty early start. Up at 7 and rolling around 9:30. Unlike last years late start, we were in the thick of things today, and finished up about 2:30.
We saw a family of four on a Santana Quad. They were going across the Bay Bridge the same time I was and I saw their bike cut in two (it has S&S couplers) slung across the back of their car. At the time, I thought it was probably a triplet. But no, it was a quad. I was hoping we would see it on the ride, and we did.
We encountered the husband and wife at the second rest stop, before we saw their bike. The husband was wearing a Tour d'Afrique jersey. I asked him if he had really don it. Yes. And so had his wife. In fact, they first met on that tour. |
