Comments: Seagull Century with L. Our 17th time. Excellent weather. Crisp in the morning but very clear and dry with just a bit of wind. The crowd seemed as big as in pre-covid days, but we didn't see a soul we knew.
The route has changed. Some roads on the leg to the first rest stop are new, as are most of the roads between the rest stops. The second rest stop has moved from Snow Hill down the road to Pocomoke City. I liked the changes.
Saw a couple crashes. Just past Pocomoke City, a fellow got too close to a guard rail, couldn't steer under the fall, hit the rail and went down. Seemed like he was with friends, so we didn't stop.
Then, just past the finish line, back in Salisbury, a fellow went down among the milling cyclists and pedestrians.
We had a pretty good pace -- 14.3. Up from 13.9 in '19, and 14.1 in '18. Best we've done since '14 when we were 15.5. (Best I have recorded was 16.4 in '07.) |
