Rider Comments:
I finally got the opportunity to ride with Larry on 5/21/06 while we were riding in a group to verify one of the Reunion 2006 routes. Don't let his "history" paragraph fool you --- this guy can hold his own on the hills. If you get a chance to ride with TrekP1 don't pass it up. He's a good story teller, strong rider, and is not afraid to pull most of the time. If you get a chance to ride with Larry be sure to ask him how effective having a personalized paint job is in deterring theft of your bike.

Enjoy "TRYING" to keep Larry in sight when riding with him.
He is Quite a strong club rider, and a great guy to know.
He gets stronger all the time, and probably should try racing
before long. One of my goals for this year, is to be able to
hang in there with him. (maybe a bit unrealistic)

I just read your rider comments and was very inspired! Keep up the great work. It isn't easy to lose weight the hard way, but sounds like you are doing it. If only people weren't always looking for the quick fix we wouldn't have the obisity problem we have now in the US. My riding partner is 71 and at times beats me up the hills. I don't like hills either, but I attack them. The quicker I get up them the sooner the pain is over Keep on riding! Mombikes

Hi Larry,

I noticed that you did the Ups and Downs yesterday as I did. Do you have any information on elevation or road grade percentage from the ride? I'll try to catch you at the Blackhawk County or the Udder and introduce myself.

History:

Woke up one day tired of being 275 # and took up walking and cut back eating. Dropped 50 # and got tired of walking. Bought a MTB in the fall of '01, cross-bike spring '02, and started upgrading w/ road bikes later in '02. Lost a bit more at the health club. Now I'm doing about 4K a year on mostly club rides and a few tours. I kept yo-yoing around 215 # and just couldn't drop any lower. Finally joined W/W and re-dedicated my time at the gym to Spinning, Body Pump, and Yoga with extra core work. I finally dropped another 30 pounds and increased total body strength. Hills and group rides are a LOT more fun this year!! At 64, I just wish that I'd found cycling earlier !!
