2006 Titan Swiss/Italian #1 Sport
Touring Road bike |
Description: Titan of Switzerland had lugged steel frames built in Italy to their specs from 1988-1994. I put this one together on 12/21/2005: NOS Columbus Chromor fully chromed frame. My 1st build used an uncut Tange chrome fork and Bill Stevenson(a great local frame builder) made a spacer to put the bar up near saddle height to help a back problem I was having. In Feb 2006 I switched to a Faggin chromed fork with Cinelli bar & stem. The paint is metallic blue with a multi-color, linear design on the top & downtubes. Columbus forged dropouts, Maroon Brooks B17 saddle, Brooks leather bar tape, Athena Monoplanar brakes, Veloce derailleurs, Athena double crank, Mavic Cosmos wheelset. It has a smooth ride & is very stable at high speed. The picture shows the current build.

1978 Colnago lugged steel
Cyclocross Road bike |
Description: I don't know the history of this inexpensive e-Bay find. It has 1980 Campy NR derailleurs, Campy cable guides & seatpost. It came with offroad sewups on Super Champion rims, Record hubs. I ride it on the road with clinchers & its scary fast with mushy brakes, needs some Kool Stops. The bare steel frame weighs only 4 pounds. It has Campy dropouts front & rear, Mafac cantilever brakes, Cinelli bar & stem, but it has a Shimano 600 crankset & Shimano barcons. There are no logos on the fork or stays & just circular openings on the lugs, no clubs cutouts. No serial #s anywhere. Several knowledgable folks have looked it over & say it's likely a Colnago because of the build quality, pinned brazing, seat stay treatment & the light weight but can't be sure because it lacks logos. I was told Colnago did build some similar bikes & there is one listed on a Colnago registry.

1976 Eisentraut Alpine
Road bike |
Description: Georgetown Cyclery of Washington D.C. sold a road frame built to their specs by several builders. A few (less than 30) were done by Albert Eisentraut. This 45cm example had an ornate early Shimano 600 group. I bought it in 2002 from a fellow who had the frame built up for his wife in 1978 but she seldom rode it. The bike was in pristine condition. When my grand daughter outgrew it, I traded it for my Specialized Expedition Touring bike. Recycled Cycles of Seattle then changed the bars back to drops & eventually sold it to some lucky owner. SOLD

1963 Zeus Vintage
Road bike |
Description: I Found this for sale in my Olympia, WA neighborhood. It had been crashed & was missing the brakeset & derailleurs. Local frame builder Bill Stevenson straightened & aligned the frame, fork & rear triangle, aligned the fork ends & dropout ends, tapped the BB & faced the head tube. I cleaned off all the rust, touched up the paint, polished & relubed everything. I added NOS Galli levers, DiaCompe calipers, new yellow sheathing, NOS SunTour Superbe derailleurs, Campagnolo alloy toe clips & cable clamps. I rode it for a while until everything was adjusted & working but it was a bit to big for me. So, I gave it to my Son. First thing he did was remove the clips & straps! He loves the ride. Last Summer he commuted from Salem, OR to his workplace, Western Oregon College in Monmouth.(17 miles each way)
