Im a 53 year old fellow who has been riding a bicycle several thousand miles a year for about 20 years--and the mystique is still just as attractive now as it was when I started riding years ago. I ride about half of my yearly mileage solo and the rest with fellow cyclists. My most exciting bike ride ever took place in May 2003 when I finished the Assault on Mt Mitchell and was still in one piece at the end. My worst cycling experience ever came exactly one week later when I had a crash near my hometown here in Tennessee. I had to be transported to the hospital and treated for severe facial lacerations and assorted other bodily injuries. BikerWife (Emily) threatened to take away my front wheel from my bicycle after this event--it is tough to ride a bicycle with one wheel--but after a few weeks of recovery she finally let me hop back into the saddle again. I have 3 children who are all very dear to me. Our oldest child just finished pharmacy school. Our second child is severly handicapped and now lives in a nursing care center. Our third child is in college working on a degree in art education. I am truly a blessed person. |
