September 2009 - I have been looking for a way to get some exercise that isn't so hard on my joints (ankles, knees, and hips.) I used to ride but haven't ridden regularly in over 20 years. I had two things keeping me from riding - an emotional attachment to my childhood bicycle and the lack of safe riding areas close to home. I finally went out and bought a bike to ride other than my nearly 50 year old Firestone coaster brake bike and Greenville is making progress on the Swamp Rabbit trail and some other bike riding areas. So I am now riding for exercise 2 to 4 times a week.

November 2009 - I have been riding about 12 weeks and have logged over 400 miles. That isn't much by many serious rider standards, but as a fat old man I'm pretty proud of it. So far I have 3 routes that I ride - two along the Swamp Rabbit Trail and one in the ICAR area. The SRT routes are dedicated biker, walker, jogger paths while the ICAR has bike lanes along the roads in the ICAR.

July 2010 - A little over a month ago I bought a new road bike and am currently riding both bikes (not at the same time!) We have had an unseasonally hot June and the big heat has slowed me down, but I'm still keeping my minimum of 40 miles a week to stay after my 2000 mile goal for the year.

June 2015 - I have been riding 5 3/4 years now - 5 years on my road bike. Due to GeeWhizMan and his challenges I am putting more time and miles on my bike this year than any other year. I am stronger than I was before my accident 21 months ago, but I am also heavier. That makes climbing a real challenge. I will never be any kind of elite rider, but I sure enjoy riding.

August 2018 - It has been a year and a half since my wreck. I ride a little but only very little. I miss the cycling time, but I can’t seem to work it into my present schedule. I plan to retire at year’s end and hope to get back to riding full time.

26" Comfort bike
Description:  This is a cheap big box store bike that I bought to see if I was going to ride or if it was a passing fancy. I put about 1300 miles on it before I bought the Gary Fisher road bike. As I became more and more comfortable with the road bike this bike has become less and less comfortable for me to ride. Even though it is not a quality bike, it got me started riding.
