Started very casual riding in 1998 due to adult onset diabetes.Began serious riding September 2002.Now the basic goals is to ride in all 50 States and most of Europe.
Hooked up with a regular ride group PMBC for a first group ride in 11/02 right before the El Tour de Tucson. Tried most of our local centuries, been to France for 2004 tour and "ran" with Lance on the Alpe D'huez. Did climb it and Mt Ventoux when there. Also enjoyed Bike Oregon in 2004. Went to France for the 2005 tour as well. Ran with Lance again and rode 4 HC climbs in the Tour ending with a day on the Col Du Tourmalet. 2005 also saw rides in Hawaii/Idaho/Montana/Washington. Visited the Tour again 2006 with Alp D'Huez and the Galibier as highlights, along with some Hawaii rides including up Haleakala. Started some "racing" with the young guys and holding my own. More consistent riding with trips again to Hawaii Oregon and now a total of 6 trips to the Tour. Ridden the Galibier, Alp D'Huez, the Aubisque, Tourmalet and Peyresourde many times now. Had a trip around Lake Geneva in Switzerland, Girona, Spain. Saw Spain via Sitges and Barcelona, Torino, Italy and ridden from Italy to France and Spain to France now. Rode Andorra for the latest of years in a row of being seen at the Tour with the local icon--the potato!! Take out the shoulder injury and surgery in 2008 and my interaction with cycling and the many friends since 2002 could not be better.
Fortunate to ride in a few states such as Kentucky(for the Senior Olympics with Ron Waller.) Post surgery rides went well and recovered quickly. Continued with the annual trips to ride France and see the Tour De France principally with Steve Miller although Mike Kirk, Kevin Jagiello Gary Bernard and John Berry have made trip. Regular trip has resulted in international feed TV time "running" every year since 2004 through 1013. (the guy with the Yellow Hair).
Tied the knot with Lenore in 2011 and we have visited the Blue Ridge mountains in NC and the Shenandoah Valley in VA. We also visited Tuscany, Italy and Belgium for some Flanders riding in 2012. Back for more TDF to finish up the 10 year run-literally-in 2013 and a week in Flanders, BE. The 2014 summer, no France, just the USA with a Seaside OR to Bar Harbor ME trip for the summer.
Touring has become a passion. In 2015, there was a trip around Belgium with the Kirklands in addition to a three week tour in the Midwest principally revolving around Route 66. In 2016, Lenore and I toured the Danube from Vienna Austria to Budapest Hungary. Later that summer I did a tour from Fargo ND via Green Bay and the UP / Ontario Canada finishing in Buffalo. Added the Great Ohio Bike Adventure. Finally experienced Paris Roubaix in France and the Tour of Flanders in Belgium(twice). Thanks to did have unexpected trips to Alaska and South Florida /Key West.
Total states visited on a bicycle is now 42 plus Washington DC and 13 other countries
