I am a 57 year-old retired from active duty military living in the Shelbyville, Tennessee area. I was diagnosed with a movement disorder called Dystonia, specifically Focal-Truncal-Dystonia in 2005. I used to enjoy running to stay in shape; however, due to dystonia, that is no longer an option. Instead, I ride much of my time on a hilly Turn Pike with wide shoulders which makes me feel as safe as possible here in non-bike friendly Tennessee. I usually ride 40+ miles a week, averaging 14mph. I ride alone. My goal is to ride around the world (mileage-wise) in order to stay fit and to defy my disorder. Much of my riding is without hands as this seems to create less muscle strain on my lower back as I "posture" from side-to-side (due to dystonia). I like to chat, so hit me up. For what it's worth, my lifetime odometer was started July 7, 2011. Thanks for this site, and I look forward to using it. Sincerely, Giorgio. |
