As a teenager I used to do a lot of road biking as well as backpacking. In fact, I didn't even get my license or a car until I was 19 years old. Fast forward to 2008 and I'm overweight and haven't done any serious backpacking in a few years, and any serious road cycling in many more years than that. I decided that 2008 is the year that things change. No more watching life pass by as I sit at home surfing the web.
I've started modifying my diet by cutting out all fast food, period. In time I'll make other modifications. I've started riding my bicycle again, albeit not much. But the weather is getting better here in central Oregon and with better weather I'll be doing more cycling. I've also decided to do at least one organized ride--most likely a metric century--this year. I'm also going to be doing some backpacking this year, with possibly a week-long trip sometime between October-February. If I wait til November or later I'll be going to Arizona to hike in the Superstition Wilderness.
