1998 Rans V-RexAchetta (Sold Fall 2017)
SWB Recumbent bike |
Description: My "first" bent. Now called "Mellow Yellow" Rode it home. Next day did a metric and ended up smiling. Has been to a number of states and attempted PBP in '03. Sold it when I got the Strada. Just had the opportunity to re-kindle my romance with this bike and bought it back. It will be my "Miami When I'm There" bike and I will never part with this baby. Shimano BB. Upgraded rear to a Deore XT to handle wider cassette for my wimp legs on hills. SRAM twist shifters. Upgraded flip it riser to a "TerraCycle" flip it and makes a world of difference in handling.
Update 07/07: Turned this into a "travel" bike by installing S&S couplers. Changed out the seat to a Bacchetta EuroMesh and added Bacchetta "tweener" handlebars. All accessories are FastBack products. Now my favorite bent!!
April 17, 2011: STOLEN!!! From my sis garage in Miami FL.
September 27, 2011: RECOVERED!!! Thanks to online bike buds who saw it for sale on Ebay. Had this bike for 12 years and hope for 12 more. Aug 2012: Decided to pare down to one main bike and this is it. Sold off the rest of the stable because I also want to buy a mountain bike. JAN 2013: Repaired S&S coupler and decided time for a new paint job. Kept the paint "Mellow Yellow".
2017: Solld because it needs to be used by a "traveler". My big travel days are over and done. :)

1999 Bike Friday SAT R DAY (1st SOLD JULY 2012)
SWB Recumbent bike |

December 17, 2006: Sadly the "Irish Mist" as I called her has been sold. Long may she ride. May 2008: Well I bought another one with a trailer and traveling suitcase as a "collectible". She won't be ridden much...maybe a short self contained tour here and there.
August 2015: Bought another SRD even though I sold two before this one. SRD's are not made anymore so I figured I'd keep one as a "classic". Upgrading the steering system and the drive train. Will use this for Bike New York for sure.

2006 Giant ONYA (Sold 04/09 sigh)
Hardtail XC Mountain bike |
Description: Living in Shanghai, I needed a bike for a Friday afternoon ride that goes over ruts, trenches, canyons, potholes, bumps, more bumps and then some bigger bumps.
This is a mtn bike with a front suspension. Switched out the knobbys for street tires, added a rear rack, bottle cage, and fenders.
If I told you little this bike cost, well you know the rest. One last thought: 20 miles on this reconfirms why I love recumbents (End of shameless plug). April 09: We're not in Shanghai any more Toto.

2003 Bacchetta STRADA (SOLD)
SWB Recumbent bike |
Description: Upgraded from a V-REX. This is one sweeeeet fast bike. I be slow. But, on my first ride with this bike I was able to pull a paceline of 5 DF's at about 20 mph into the wind. The thank you's were much appreciated and I thanked the bike.
September 2006: Decided to take this to Shanghai China to help me explore that part of the world. After 2 months the STRADA has been retired from the "Friday over rutted and back bumpy roads ride". A GIANT moountain bike took her place. We don't want to damage the pretty rims do we?
Shimano thingies and some other good stuff.
Aug 07: Hated to sell it, but for the next 24 months it would sit in the garage for 21 of them. She needs to be ridden and fast!!!
