After having retired from one career, I started work for Perimeter Bicycling Association of America, Inc. as the Event Director for El Tour de Mesa. PBAA produced El Tour de Tucson, El Tour de Mesa, Tour of the Tucson Mountains and the Cochise Cycling Classic. I am a member of PBAA and Phoenix Metro Bicycle Club. I have been riding for 43 years and have logged over 500,000 miles on a bicycle saddle.

Arizona is a great place to ride because we do not get much snow in the Valley of the Sun. A little warm in the summer, but the other 9 months make up for it. My wife Kris also rides and we share our Cannondale tandem for a few thousand miles each year.

In 2014 I had a run in with a wasp that flew down my throat and stung me. It put me in ICU in an induced coma for several days as I fought anaphalactic shock. Caused a lot of side effects but finally was able to get back on the bike. Then in July 2015 I found out I had Stage 3 melanoma skin cancers. 4 months and several surgeries later I was doing well again, but ever vigilant about too much sun. Long live sun block!! Thanks to my cancer surgeon and other doctors at Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center for getting me back up and cycling. I am now fighting the cancer as it has gone metastatic....inside of me. I started receiving immunotherapy and it worked well for almost 2 years. Then it stopped working and I now receive genomic cancer drugs which are slowing the progress of my cancer.

I am doing great right now and I can still ride. Thank you God!!

I also crashed in January 2019 on my bike and broke my left hip. Nice to have a little variety in my life when I have to visit the hospital. All is doing well and it is nice to be part bionic.

In January 2022, the doctors at Banner MDAnderson Cancer Center did my quarterly Pet Scan. For the 19th month in a row they could not find any cancer in me. They told me I was in Complete Remission. An absolute miracle for someone that had the cancer that I had. God truly works miracles!
